Our Summer Evac-U-Cation
Hurricane Irma set her cap to come our way and because of Nate's many medical issues I was urgently setting things into place, various things that I could only hope would keep him safe from the unknown safe from the what ifs. Now I will be the first to tell you that I love storms. I love the sounds and the smells of a good thunderstorm. Hurricanes too, well that was before Nate came into the world. now they bring a whole kettle of worry
So as things happened, a friend of mine insisted that we reach out to our 'Island of friends' on social media to help us evacuate to NY/Vermont. So I did. Wow!!!! In a matter of hours we had enough funds to get us there. What an amazing blessing! Just the trip in its self was a overwhelming challenge but I did it. I did it with a LOT of help from my friends.
So, what normally would take 2 days. ( 24 hours drive time) took us 4 days. Four long 9 hour days of driving and stopping and making many detours because of accidents caused by fellow Floridians evacuating. Nate was a champ through it all. And I will forever be thankful and grateful for all the help along the way!!
We even met up with a friend along the way and made new friends too!!
The FUN part of it was when we met up with Nate's Aunt Amy in Strasbourg Pa. The train station/museum they have there has been on my wish list for 4 years!! I have a bunch of pictures that I will share later if I can just figure out how to do that from the desktop.
Our evacuation was one of the most enjoyable vacations I have ever had in my whole life and it was Nate's FIRST vacation ever in his whole life! I'm afraid it has set a very high bar for any future vacations.
We traveled some of my very favorite Vermont back roads in search of beauty and we found it in abundance! what a joy it was for me to show my son around some of the places that bring back my fondest memories.
And field trips?!?! Field trips Galore!! We were upstate NY for 4 weeks and we did over 20 field trips!! and I took over 800 photos! We even got a few videos too. I packed a huge bag just for our 'school' things. We did all our normal weekly crafts. Baking on Monday, Clay on Tuesday, Painting on Wednesday, Music on Thursday and Knitting on Friday. Our MLB for the month was Math so with a few manipulativs and worksheets we were good to go! We even had a treat and did our Morning Circle outside on the back deck. OH What a TREAT!
We visited an enchanted forest and saw where the fairies live. We picked apples and then made Apple butter to give as holiday gifts. We went to Albany NY to the museum there and walked right inside an Indian longhouse. We stood inside a hollow tree and listened to the secrets of the forest and the Green Mountains.
We climbed mountains and visited rivers. We saw sheep being sheared and sheep being herded. We even brought home some raw wool for projects. We saw goats being milked and took home some cheese. We visited several farms we picked raspberries for our lunch and we in awe of the colors at the pumpkin patch, Nate tried many many new and exciting things.
We even came across a hot air balloon show just ending. Touring an alpaca farm and a lumber yard then examining a historic wooden bridge up in the majestic Adirondacks in just one day was something that set my heart aglow. I know I should've written it all down as we went...but ....at least I have the pictures!
Here are just a few. Enjoy.
